PRESENTATION

The history of Soroptimism is about the loyalty to the good beginning in every activity. Soroptimist great priorities are to support high moral standards in the social and business life, to work for the respect of human rights and for equal rights of the sexes, ages and nationalities, all this in spirit of friendship, harmony and mutual assistance.

The Bulgarian Union of Soroptimist International unites 7 clubs: 3 in Sofia and one in Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna and Pazardzik.

CLUB SOFIA 1 – FOUNDER was founded in May 1992 in Sofia with President Iliana Zacharieva under the patronage of the club in Marseille - France with Godmother Simon Nikoloff, and the active help of Nina Komanaku, Gerda Wedwr and Clara Brank.
Projects:
- The first and most important project that they have worked on for ten years was to promote Soroptimism in Bulgaria and to involve many other women for the ideas of Soroptimist by founding clubs in the country. Other projects were: The realization of the international teaching project on the Portage program; Day Care Center for children with mental illness in Pazardjik; Supporting artists in one of Sofia’s aged people hostels; Building of a children’s playground in the open for healthy and handicapped children and many others projects.
- The most important project was the organization of the building the Soroptimist Union in Bulgaria. Iliana Zacharieva, Simeona Veleva, Emilia Petrova (Sofia 1- Founder), Ilina Georgieva (Vitosha) have done the hole work for two years.
The building of a union has become a fact in October 2002.

CLUB BOURGAS –founded in 1997. Godmother - SUISS UNION, with help to Trudy Koehlli and Roswitha Ott.
Projects:
-Working with children in the town of Sredetz /orphans, single mothers, poor families/
-Working with Association of Single Mothers
- Sponsorship for orphan’s house and children with cerebral paresis sickness
- Sponsorship for the treatment of pulmonary illnesses

CLUB BOIANA - was founded in 1997. Godmother - Club Sofia 1 – Founder and Ally de Vries Netherland
Projects:
House for Elderly people with mental problems in Sofia
- Organizing spectacles for the sick children
- Patronage of School for blind children
- Sponsorship for artists school

CLUB PLOVDIV – was founded in 1998. Godmother - Club Sofia 1 – Founder and Miriam Van Damme club Antwerp / Belgium/.
Projects:
- Co-partnership with the Plovdiv Municipality and schools collecting toys for Romany children
- Collaboration with Bad Nouheim / Germany / for sponsorship for the Paediatrics Hospital in Plovdiv – for special beds
- English course for club members – sponsored by Hanne Jensbo program “Education the key of progress”- social program for English language teacher
- Sponsorship for Pediatric Surgery in Plovdiv
- Reading stories for children every Saturday morning in a bookshop
- Sponsorship talented children with the help of Godmothers from Antwerp and many others projects.

CLUB VARNA - was founded in 1999. Godmother - club Kifissia – Athens Greece.
Projects:
- Financial support for “Karin Dom” – the training centre for cerebral paresis sick children and their parents

CLUB VITOSHA - was founded in 1999. Godmother - clubs from Düsseldorf / Germany/.
Projects:
- Working with the House for drug addicted people.
- Fundraising for the International New Year Music Festival in the National Palace of Culture
- Sponsoring of a handicapped student for a scholarship in Japan for 3 months

CLUB PAZARDZIK - was founded in 2005. Godmother - club Plovdiv. The charter was presented by Hanne Jensbo and Lisbeth Hass.
Projects:
- Supporting the entrepreneurship and employment among local community to ensure better quality of life
